There is a growing interest in how local communities can come together to take action to tackle climate change and in particular to promote renewable energy and energy conservation and efficiency at local level.
Since the end of 2006, I have been working with a number of organisations to develop proposals for a local community energy strategy for Edinburgh, with an emphasis on the North Edinburgh and Leith area which offers many opportunities to integrate sustainable energy into proposed new developments. The Edinburgh Community Energy Co-operative Ltd was formed at the end of 2007 with the support of Co-operative Development Scotland. It was set up to give Edinburgh residents a vehicle to promote and develop renewable energy in the city.
You can see here and here more details of the reports that have been produced as part of this process.
If you want to apply to join the co-op then fill in and return the application form, which is available here.
