Fairtrade Fizz - Mark launches Fairtrade cola at Waitrose in Comely Bank

Supporting Fairtrade Fortnight in Edinburgh, Mark launched Ubuntu Fairtrade cola at Waitrose’s Comely Bank store this week.  He said:

“I would like to congratulate Waitrose for being the first supermarket to bring Ubuntu to Scotland. As one of those who launched Edinburgh as Scotland's first Fairtrade City a few years ago, I am delighted that Edinburgh is notching up another fair trade first.”

Demonstrating that Fairtrade isn’t just about bananas and coffee, Waitrose is supporting the makers of the first Fairtrade fizzy drink by exclusively stocking it in 50 branches across the UK including the one in Comely Bank – the only one in Scotland to stock it.

Ubuntu Cola was the first cola to be certified Fairtrade in the UK and it uses Fairtrade sugar from the Kasinthula Cooperative in Malawi, a country which has close links with Scotland.

'Ubuntu' is a South African term for the concept of humanity and kindness. The company will donate at least 15% of their annual profits to the Ubuntu Africa Program.
