Mark has spoken out against £1 million cuts to funding for Edinburgh's voluntary and third sector groups imposed by the Lib Dem/SNP administration.
He accused the City Council of abandoning vulnerable people in Edinburgh and took part in a protest outside the City Chambers on Thursday 11th March. The drastic cuts will mean that a number of groups providing key support to vulnerable people like children suffering from abuse, those with learning disabilities or older people with Alzheimer’s, risk not getting the money they need to carry on. Mark said: "The Lib Dems and SNP are abandoning vulnerable people in Edinburgh. It has been getting more and more difficult for groups that do fabulous work supporting vulnerable people to get the funding they need from Edinburgh City Council and this is yet another huge blow to the caring people of this capital. This £1 million cut is a hammer blow to key services in the capital. The people that will be affected by this £1 million cut are people who need our help; children who have been abused, have learning difficulties, people with Alzheimer’s or older people that need a helping hand to get through their daily lives. By slashing funding for these groups, the Lib Dems and SNP are doing long term damage to our capital." |
