Mark visited the Scottish Gas offices in Granton on Friday to give his support to the tremendous fundraising effort by staff in aid of Sport Relief and joined in by taking some calls on the switchboard
He said:
“It was great to see so many people giving up their own time to help raise cash for Sport Relief – and enjoying themselves while doing it! I was delighted to see how Scottish Gas staff in Edinburgh were playing such an important role in the nationwide Sport Relief campaign.”
Staff took 2,431 calls, raising over £72,000 for Sport Relief on Friday night (19 March).
Scottish Gas also ran other events throughout last week, including a 24 hour cycle-thon, sporting hero dress up day and beat the goalie that is expected to swell the amount of money raised by a further £3,500.
The site at Granton was one of only three call centres in Scotland to take part, with 150 employees taking pledge calls from 7pm – midnight. A further 10 staff ran fundraising activities, including a treadmill challenge with senior members of staff, to boost morale throughout the evening.
Kevin Roxburgh, Managing Director of Scottish Gas, said:
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all those colleagues, friends and family who got involved in Sport Relief from those who took pledge calls, to those who organised and took part in the number of sporting activities to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
