Mark is supporting No Smoking Day on 10th March, which aims to encourage smokers across the UK to break free and kick the habit. A range of events are planned with information on how to try and stop smoking.
He said:
“No Smoking Day is a fantastic campaign to help and support smokers who want to stop smoking.
“It isn’t always to easy to quit smoking but it can mean people are up to £180 a month better off. And of course the health benefits are immense. I’m encouraging people to come and find out what advice and support is on offer as this can greatly increase your chances of success.”
In the UK Parliament last year, Mark voted for the clause in the Health Bill banning the sale of cigarettes in vending machines or at point of sale where they would be most easily visible. The aim was to try and cut the number of young people in particular who smoke. For more information on this click here.
This is a devolved issue and the Scottish Parliament passed similar legislation in January of this year. To learn more about the new legislation click here.
The President of No Smoking Day is the entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star, Duncan Bannatyne.
There will be an information stall at the Kirkgate Shopping Centre, Leith, 1.30 – 3.30 pm where people can find out about help available including local groups that exist to support people in trying to stop smoking. |
