At a rally organized by Operation Noah, the Christian climate change campaign, Mark backed a call for a radical international agreement to cut carbon emissions at the crucial UN Summit in Copenhagen this December.
He joined the Anglican Bishop of London, The Rt Revd Richard Chartres, Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, and several hundred children, for the spectacle at Westminster.
Mark said:
“The involvement of so many school children, and their concern for the threat facing us, is inspiring. It is great that children are so engaged in the issue and are pressuring us to do all we can now to save the planet they will inherit.”
It was a colourful rally with animals to remind people about Noah’s ark and the consequences of climate change for animals as well as humans. There was also music from a brass quintet and Afro-Caribbean drummers.
The carnival atmosphere didn’t detract from the serious purpose of the event though which was to bring home the urgent need for international agreement at the Copenhagen summit. |
