The Scottish Government’s commitment to tackling climate change has been questioned after an independent report by Edinburgh cycling charity, Spokes, highlighted cuts in the cycling budget over each of the last 3 years by the Scottish Executive. The budget for Sustrans which is responsible for creating cycle routes and lanes has been reduced by £5 million over the past 3 years. According to the Spokes report, Cycling Scotland has also seen a £600,000 cut in its budget.
Mark is a keen cyclist and he commented: "Hundreds of millions extra is being spent on infrastructure projects, particularly in areas which are politically important for the SNP.
"Yet a relatively small sum of money for cycling, which has benefits for the environment, health, tourism, cannot be found."
