Mark has given his strong support to a carbon reduction action project planned by committed local residents in Stockbridge and Inverleith. In conjunction with the area’s Community Council they are currently applying for funds from the Climate Challenge Fund for the project. It will involve working with local residents on home energy savings, waste, transport and food, with the aim of changing behaviour and cutting carbon emissions. The project will hopefully bring resources and jobs to the local area and provide much needed support for local high street shops.
Food will play a key role in the project - those involved are very keen to work with the allotments in Inverleith and encourage people to shop locally. As well as enhancing community life, they hope that changes like this will reduce car usage and minimise waste to landfill. After the disappointing outcome at Copenhagen, initiatives like this are a way for all of us to help tackle climate change by making a difference in our local communities.
